Honolulu police said a man in his 40s died on Kapolei Parkway Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle crash.

He was identified as 45-year-old Elcid Cabangon of Kapolei.

It happened at around 12:40 p.m. near Renton Road

Investigators said the man was speeding on Kapolei Parkway in the westbound direction when the motorcyclist hit a tree.  Police said the impact was so strong, the motorcycle split apart.

The road was closed in both directions while police investigated the crash.  It was reopened just before 4:30 p.m.

Police are investigating if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
