"We just heard this loud boom, like a car crashing through a wall," said Kalihi Valley resident Gerald Abella.
That loud boom that Abella heard was three large boulders crashing down from a hillside and slamming into his bedroom wall.
One of the boulders punctured his wall, narrowly missing his head.
"This is maybe about three inches from my head, from where I sleep," said Abella.
The hole caused wood debris and paint chips to fall on his face. And sleeping right next to Abella were his wife and 2-year-old son Bryant, who still covers his ears every time he sees the mess.
"If it went through the window with this piece on it, it would have hit all three of us," said Abella. "Thank God it didn't do any more damage and get us injured."
City Emergency Management crews say the wet weather caused the soil underneath the boulders to give way.
The family, still frightened by the whole ordeal, says they will be sleeping in the living room Monday night away from the dangerous hillside.
"I don't want to take the chances of any other parts falling like going through the wall again, so we're gonna stay in the living room," said Abella.
