Maui County Police say Maui High School and Kahului Elementary School were under lockdown Monday after a report of a teen with a handgun.
Police received a 911 call from an anonymous female at around 10:47 a.m. saying that she saw a 16-year-old boy with a concealed handgun going onto the Maui High campus by jumping over the fence near the banana patch off of Papa Avenue.
She said the boy is 5-feet-3-inches-tall with a thin build and medium-length wavy hair. He was wearing a white shirt and jeans. The caller said the handgun was concealed under his shirt.
The Maui Police Department’s School Resource Officer assigned to Maui High School, who was on the campus at the time, then relayed the information to Vice Principal, who then decided to implement a lockdown of the campus.
Police arrived on campus at around 10:51 a.m. and began making checks of the campus.
Kahului Elementary School ordered a lockdown at 11:14 a.m.
Police could not find a person matching the caller's description. The lockdown was lifted at Maui High at 11:58 a.m. and at Kahului Elementary at 12:30 p.m.
An investigation into this case is ongoing.
