Jury selection is underway for the murder trial of a State Department special agent charged in the shooting death of a man inside a Waikiki McDonald's restaurant.
What's expected to be a lengthy jury selection process began Monday. A spokesman for the Honolulu prosecutor's office says questionnaires were mailed to 750 prospective jurors and lawyers will question them individually.
Christopher Deedy is charged with second-degree murder in the November 2011 death of Kollin Elderts, of Kailua.
Deedy, of Arlington, Va., was in Honolulu for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit at the time of the shooting.
Jury selection will end when lawyers for both sides agree on a panel and alternates. The trial is scheduled to begin July 1.
