Aloha Tower fireworks show
Oahu residents got an early fireworks display show at Aloha Tower Tuesday night.
There was also a big party as the crowd celebrated Independence Day. This annual event also gave island businesses a reason to cheer.
The end of the 3rd of July celebrations came not with a bang but a spectacular blast in the night sky over Honolulu Harbor.
Before the big fireworks show, some shared why Independence Day was so special.
For Vietnam veteran Vlas Silva, it was a chance to catch up with family and reflect on what made our country.
"Our forefathers went forth with the concept of freedom and the concept of liberty. This is for my generation and the generations that follow me," said Silva.
"It promotes freedom for us, and statehood for us," said Honolulu resident Jon Nakamura
There was even a real Yankee there to enjoy the fireworks festivities --
Stanley Yankee from Aiea.
"I guess because of my last name, 'Yankee Doodle' and all that, it does make it extra special," said Yankee.
While many showed off their patriotism and some red, white and blue, some island businesses looked forward to a little more green this holiday.
