With 68 days to go, registration for the 40th Honolulu Marathon is nearly 4,000 ahead of last year's entry total, according to event organizers.
There are more than 26,000 registrations, as of this writing. The marathon will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9.
Event organizers say this year's field could be one of the largest ever. More than 13,000 participants from Japan have already registered.
The local field has more than 11,000 registered. That's up from 8,201 local entries from 2011.
The race has reached a field of 30,000 six times. Five of those years were in the 1990s and the last one was in 2002.
