Home surrounded by car dealership
Bishop Kamahiai's property fenced in by Cutter Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Pearl City
Hundreds of vehicles surround a Pearl City home, and have for many decades.
Bishop Kamahiai's property is practically surrounded by Cutter Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Pearl City.
"I've always grew up around this cars being fixed and stuff," Kamahiai said.
According to Kamahiai, the home has been passed down his family for generations and that this all came to be in the 1940s, when Waipahu Garage bought most of the land around the property. Cutter eventually took over.
Kamahiai said, "I got no complaints with them. I got none. No, no, no complaints."
The only side not bordered by Cutter is Fourth Street, where he and his family enter their property. On the west side, a lot for vehicles. Just north, Cutter's service and parts department. Looking east, an open garage for repairs.
"I do deal with the noise. But it's a give and take thing yeah?" Kamahiai added. "We have a problem like, say example, lights. You know, they hold, they leave the lights on all night. It shines on us. Call them up, they get right on it. They fix the problem."
Kamahiai said Cutter has tried to buy them out four or five times and that they came close on a couple occasions. The last offer came two years ago, according to Kamahiai, who said he doesn't know where they stand today.
We could not reach the owner of Cutter for comment.
"Money, would take more than the market value for me to get out of here. And I mean this, I'm born and raised in Pearl City. That's all I know yeah? So for my family, I guess it's just so easy. Everything right here," Kamahiai said.
