High surf warnings, advisories in effect Monday
Forecasters say large northwest swell will produce dangerous waves
A large northwest swell is expected to impact the north and west shores of several islands Monday, according to forecasters.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a high surf warning Monday for the north and west shores of Kauai, Oahu and Molokai as well as the north facing shores of Maui, where sets up to 25 feet in face are possible. The warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
The Weather Service also issued a high surf advisory Monday for the west shores of the Big Island. Surf heights are expected to be in the 5-to-8-foot-high range. The surf will rise through the morning and peak in the afternoon. The advisory is also in effect until 6 p.m. Monday.
Forecasters said strong waves and currents are likely, and that anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death.
