Big Island woman murdered in New York
Police in Rochester, N.Y. have a person of interest in custody in connection with the death of a Hawaii woman, according to the ABC affiliate in Rochester.
The woman was identified as 73-year-old Edline Chun from the Big Island. She was found shot to death in Tryon Park on Wednesday.
Police say she was not killed in the park, but would not say where they believe she was shot. The investigation is ongoing at her Hazelwood Terrace home. Chun lived alone.
Authorities believe Chun and the person of interest did not know each other, but investigators believe Chun was targeted.
Friends say she spread the Aloha Spirit in Rochester.
"I first met Auntie Eddie, as we called her, at my Hawaiian dance studio," said Victoria Visiko. "I believe it was the beginning of 2002, she was so thrilled I opened a Hawaiian studio."
Friends say Chun was born and raised in Hawaii and shared her memories of the islands with other members of the studio.
"There's not one thing that I won't miss, there's not one thing," said Visiko. "She was the most incredible human being."
