The Department of Defense identified the soldier killed as 21-year-old specialist Daniel Carlson of Running Springs, California Sunday.
Carlson died Nov. 9 in Kandahar province. He was in Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Specialist Carlson was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division out of Wheeler Army Airfield.
