Building websites and business
In the digital age, it's common for consumers to go online to find a product or service. But, a recent survey shows most small businesses in Hawaii do not have an online presence.
But now, Google is trying to change that.
Joanne Braden wants to share her product with just one click, instead of by word of mouth.
"I came here because I thought that the next step to promote the business was to go virtual and get it outside of just a local area," said Braden.
She's one out of a hundred small business owners trying to get into the virtual world at Google and Intuit's Hawaii Get Your Business Online workshop.
According to Google, 97 percent of Americans look for local products and services online, but 68 percent of small businesses in Hawaii do not have an online presence.
Google is trying to help close that gap so visitors and customers can get connected with local goods.
"The web and the way the web is evolving is really new for a lot of business owenrs who have been doing their business locally for a long time, but haven't yet cracked this, 'what a web presence means' and how to do it," said Laura Melahn from Google.
Melahn says you can learn step by step how to choose an image and a domain name and you don't have to be a computer programmer.
"There's a myth that it might be hard or expensive to get online so what we are doing here today is showing that it can be fast and easy and even free," said Melahn.
