Fuel leak investigation at Sand IslandUPDATED 6:51 AM HST Mar 03, 2014Video Transcript
Investigators are looking into an early morning fuel leak at Sand Island... KITV-4's Ashley Moser -- standing by LIVE at the scene -- with the very latest. Ashley? Good morning! I'm in front of the rolloffs Hawaii on sand island where this morning a fuel tank leaked diesel... filling this area behind me. Take a look at the sand on the street. Fire crews had to put it down to prevent the fuel from running down into the streets' storm drains. We spoke with a security guard who patrols the area. He says he smelled something around 11 last night but didn't think anything of it because it's an industrial area. When he came back around 2, he noticed fuel leaked from the property on to the streets. That's when he says he called the company and fire crews. When a company employee got here, he said he turned off the valve on the tank. He noticed the spill wasn't a stream of fuel...rather a sprinkling affect. Fire crews arrived shortly after 3 laying down the sand near the storm drains behind me. They left the scene an hour later. Right now we've been seeing employees drive in and out of the parking lot. So it's back to work as usual! Reporting live from sand island, Ashley moser KITV 4 news.
