The Hawaii State Chapter of the American Red Cross said it is aware of the arrest of a former employee.
The Red Cross recently discovered an accounting irregularity which indicated some funds were missing from chapter accounts.
The 62-year-old woman allegedly embezzled more than $5,200 while she worked at the Red Cross back in 2004.
The chapter turned the matter over to the Honolulu Police Department who began an investigation in the missing funds.
The woman was released pending investigation.
The Red Cross says it is cooperating with the HPD investigation. Until the matter is resolved, the organization said it will have no further comment on this issue.
Hawaii Red Cross CEO Coralie Matayoshi says the organization has zero tolerance for fraud, waste and abuse, and is committed to being good stewards of donor dollars.
