HONOMU, Hawaii -

Hawaii County fire officials said crews recovered the body of a 37-year-old man Saturday in an apparent drowning in an area known as "23 Flats" in Honomu.

Big Island police identified the man as Ian Tengan of Hilo.

Tengan was fishing from the shoreline when he was apparently swept off the rocks by the waves and disappeared beneath rough surf.

Crews responded to the scene just after 3 p.m.  A search mission with two divers led to the discovery of the body.  Tengan was found floating face down in the water.

Police requested an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
