Firecracker permit sales down in 2012

HONOLULU -

The Honolulu Fire Department says firecracker permits for New Year's Eve in 2012 were down by nearly 100 from the previous year.

As of the close of business on Dec. 21, the deadline for firecracker permits, there were 8,564 permits sold.  There were 8,656 permits sold for New Year's Eve in 2011.

Firecrackers go on sale Dec. 26 and can be sold until midnight Dec. 31.

Firecrackers may be set off from 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.

No one under 18 may use firecrackers, even with adult supervision.
