Fire on Maui takes seven hours to bring under control
A fire at the Valley Isle resort in Kahana forced the evacuation Monday morning of hotel guests.
Maui Fire Department spokesperson Lee Mainaga said the fire broke out around 6 a.m. on the second floor of the building.
Guests staying on that floor, and adjoining buildings were evacuated.
Video submitted by one of our u local users shows the fire reaching 20 feet into the air. Mainaga says the affected building housed a gym, sauna, kitchen, and offices.
The Valley Isle Resort is located at 4327 Lower Honoapiilani Highway.
According to the resort's website, it has more than 40 oceanfront and vacation condo rentals.
