Fire crews respond to 2-alarm fire in Kaneohe

KANEOHE, Hawaii -

Honolulu firefighters responded Friday to a two-alarm fire at a two-story home in Kaneohe.

The call came just before noon on Hui Iwa Street.

Fire officials say there was major damage to the bottom floor and moderate damage to the top floor.  There are three bedrooms on each floor.

Fire officials say some heat may have damaged a neighboring home.

One person was home at the time of the fire and escaped uninjured.

The fire appears to have started on the on the bottom floor near the rear of the home, according to investigators.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The American Red Cross is helping the four residents affected by the fire.

Damage is estimated at $450,000 to the structure and its contents.  The neighboring home may have $5,000 in damage.
