Honolulu fire crews spent about two hours overnight battling a brush fire just north of Wahiawa town, according to fire officials.

It started at around 9 p.m. Monday near the Kukaniloko birthing stones.

At the height of the fire, more than 30 firefighters were joined by a dozen federal firefighters to battle the flames.

The brush fire spread in the cane field between Kamehameha Highway and Kamananui Road as was making its way toward Schofield Barracks.

Because of its remote location, crews had to use four engines to pump water from several tankers out to firefighters in the field.

While another waterway helped to contain the flames, the Kaukonahua Stream kept the fire boxed in to the north.

The blaze was contained by 11:45 p.m. Monday.

Investigators are looking into what caused the brush fire, but there were reports the homeless had been camping in the field before it caught on fire.

No one was injured.
