William Ranep
Maui police say a 37-year-old man from Napili has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his co-worker.
A preliminary investigation identified the murder suspect as William Ranep.
On Monday at around 7 p.m., officers responded to the scene at the Napili Plaze on Napilihau Street. The call was for a verbal altercation between two co-workers of a maintenance firm.
Officers learned the altercation took place near the rear parking lot of the Napili Plaza. The verbal altercation had turned physical and the suspect left in a white pickup truck, which belonged to the maintenance firm. 58-year-old Danny Jose of Lahaina was left on the ground unresponsive.
Jose was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition where he died the next morning.
At around 8:15 p.m., officers located the white pickup truck on Hanawai Street. Ranep was still in the truck and was placed under arrest.
Bail is set at $100,000. Ranep was scheduled to appear in court Thursday for his initial arraignment.
