available. Another emotional day at the state capitol. Fallout over the same sex marriage issue...spilled out on the house floor. KITV4's Catherine Cruz joins us live with the latest from the state capitol. Catherine? The house is expected to hold its first hearing on the senate bill Thursday morning. But tensions erupted over a leadership squabble and left house republicans in disarray and house democrats reeling. It's only day two of the special session, but republicans calling for the end to a bi- partisan coalition created the drama-of- the- day. - Bob McDermott: 18 00- 18;17 -'I would like the leadership team to be dissolved I would like to give back the vice chairmanships to mthe majority you can have them it has poluted us it has clouded our vision to provide the ying and yang of the democratic process," McDermott is hoping to replace marriage equality supporter Cynthia Theilen who sits on the Judiciary committee with Rep. Richard Fale who's for traditional marriage. - Cynthia Thielen 24:30- 24: 40 - "I believe some of these social conservatives have done more to our party than the Democrats do and mr speaker I refuse to step down," McDermott is upset that Democrats got the governor to call a special session without giving a heads up to minority leaders. - Bob McDermott - 16:08 16:27 - "Didn't come see me. Didn't come see our caucus. We were part of the governing caucus that gave you the gavel, that your leadership. We are insulted I find it offesive the constiutents find it offensive people who showed up yesterday the thousands of them find it offense. Hasnt been good for you. Hasnt been good for us." McDermott's resolution called for replacing minority leader Aaron Ling Johanson with Rep. Gene Ward and triggered floor feud that spun out of control. - Gene Ward 30:14 - 30 :45 - " Let's not be truthful You switched out Rep. Cabinilla who is a no vote on same sex marriage with Denny Coffman who is a yes vote on same- sex. Lets talk the truth . I am going to call you out-of-order. Do so sir. You are out of order. thank you very much -you want Sgt -of -Arms," I want to finish my speech. Recess. In the end Ward did not get ejected, but the resolution was shot down. House majority leader Scott Saiki said today the house bills calling for lawmakers to take the same sex issue to voters introduced this week would NOT be acted on. And that the outcome of today's vote would likely mirror the actual up or down on the senate equality bill. - Rep. Scott Saiki 51: 41 - 51:55 - "I think this showing what the level of support and the level of oppostion is. Those who are opposed are looking at proceedural reasons now, before the issue is before us for a vote," Painful politics in a House divided which is unlikely to get easier in the days to come. If you plan to testity in person at the Thrusday house hearing on the same-sex biill. The house is prepared to go until midnight. If they dont get through hearing they plan to readjoun probably the following day. The other thing is they will be registering testifiers so you will be assigned a number so hopefully some of the problems we say last night in the senate won;t be repeated. Back to you. We want to know want you think, today on KITV dot com we're asking: Should the legalization of same-sex marriage in Hawaii be left up to the lawmakers or the voters? Let us know, we'll share your results tonight at 6.
