Many get in the festive holiday spirit by stopping to see the colorful Honolulu City Lights.

But, if you plan on hitting the major roads at night over the next two weeks, get ready to be stopped by a city light of a different kind.

There is a rush to get road repairs done before the holidays, which also gives Christmas shoppers one more thing to add to their list -- traffic.

"I have to plan on when to go out and do things based on when traffic will be heaviest," said Manoa resident Rachel Montgomery.

Even at night, plenty of drivers hit the highways ahead of the holidays.

"I'm going to parties, work stuff and try to get some last-minute shopping in," said Honolulu resident Ross Takara.

But for the next two weeks, this end-of-the-year pavement work means many will be spending more time on the road.

"If I know where the closures are, I will try to avoid those times that I know it is happening," said Takara.

This week, there will not only be closures in Honolulu along Ala Moana Boulevard, three lanes will be closed on the H-1 Freeway between Pearl City and Waipahu.

There will also be lane closures on Moanalua Freeway for pavement work along with daytime lanes being shut down along Kamehameha Highway, Farrington Highway in Waianae and the Likelike Highway.
