Emotional testimony in Kauai GMO council meetingUPDATED 7:23 PM HST Oct 15, 2013Video Transcript
On Kauai... Emotional testimony during today's City council meeting over a bill that would regulate pesticide use and genetically modified crops. 13:51-14:05: "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? ARE YOU WAITING FOR THESE COMPANIES TO HIDE MORE STUFF FROM US? LIFE IS PASSING AND HEALTH IS BEING COMPROMISED, MY GOD PLEASE..." Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho wants to defer the bill for 2 months -- so the council can work with the state and the county on the controversial issue. But opponents of Bill 2491, told council members they could not wait any longer, citing health and safety issues. Bill 2491 would require "mandatory disclosure of pesticide use" -- and the location of G-M-O crops -- by any company that uses more than 5 pounds or 15 gallons of restricted-use pesticides every year. That city council meeting is still going on, now into its 9th hour.
