The 28th annual Quicksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau, dubbed "Eddie Would Go," the big wave surf invitational on Oahu's North Shore is a no-go this weekend, according to event organizers.
The event holding period began on Dec. 1 and ends on Feb. 28, 2013.
Greg Long was the last champion of the event. On Dec. 8, 2009, 25 foot surf helped the California native to victory. A record crowd of more than 30,000 people lined the beach, roadside and cliffs.
The big wave surfing event requires waves measuring 20 feet or more. "The Eddie" is held at Waimea Bay and has taken place only seven times in 27 years.
