Police surveyed the violent collision scene from above.  This is all that's left of a Honda severed in half after crashing into a car and a utility pole Tuesday morning.

"The Honda was traveling at a high rate of speed on Kunia (Road)," said Lt. Bobby Towne of the Honolulu Police Department Traffic Division.

38-year-old Michael John Daraban Jr. and a 29-year-old man were found in a Honda in Waialua at around 7 a.m. after officers went to Daraban's home in Wahiawa to serve a drug search warrant at 6 a.m., according to police.

Officers followed the Honda and the vehicle began traveling at a high rate of speed before coming to a violent end in front of Schofield Barracks.

"Even after the initial collision, the black Honda was still going fast enough that when it hit the light pole, it was cut in half," said Towne.

The force of the impact spread glass, debris and car parts for 100 feet while at the base of the intersection's light pole lay the body of Daraban covered by a yellow blanket.

"The passenger of the Honda was ejected and expired at the scene," said Towne.

Police spotted Daraban's car after trying to serve a drug warrant at his home in Wahiawa an hour before the deadly crash.

Daraban had already been convicted of multiple drug felonies and other offenses including abusing a family member.
