Parking warning for holiday shoppers
The holiday shopping season is upon us and that means parking spaces will be at a premium. But, be careful where you park or you could get stuck with a costly boot.
"We've been called in to make sure the people parking here are going to these businesses," said Sean Starn from Hawaii Boot Removal.
Modex Surfboards is one of the businesses on Kapahulu Avenue where manager Conor Baldwin has seen his share of people filling up the lot, but not the stores.
"They'll park and go to Safeway, Leonards, go get cigarettes," said Baldwin. "But, if you park here you might as well use the places for this parking lot."
Now, if you park and shop somewhere else, you'll get the boot.
"We wait, and as soon as someone leaves the property, they're booted," said Starn.
To get the device removed, it's a $160 cash fine.
The boot is ironclad, but excuses from drivers are not.
"We hear it every single day. They get booted. I was going to go to the restaurant. I was gonig to get pastries. Honestly, they weren't. They got caught," said Starn.
While some may complain if they are booted after they park here and leave, there are signs all around explaining what would happen if they did.
