Big Island police investigators say they have released Albert Berdon III pending further investigation in a two-vehicle crash that killed two women in Honokaa on Monday.

Berdon faces two counts of negligent homicide, four counts of negligent injury, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, driving while license was suspended or revoked, and driving without no-fault insurance.

However, he remains in custody on a separate no-bail warrant.

Berdon was driving a pickup truck on Mamalahoa Highway when police say he overtook a van with nine people.

A 61-year-old woman and a 54-year-old woman, both from Keaau, died Monday from injuries they received from the crash.

Police traffic investigators are also asking for any witnesses and people assisting at the scene to call Officer Paul Kim at 333-9708.
