Death of Hawaii-based marine under investigation

PFC Holmes, 20, from Chico, Calif. died during a training exercise on mainland

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII, Hawaii -

Private First Class Casey J. Holmes, 20, from Chico, Calif., died Monday during an Integrated Training Exercise at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif., according to Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

Holmes enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 2012 and joined 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in October 2012.

His personal decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

The incident is currently under investigation.
