Investigators are trying to determine what started a fire at Maui's Valley Isle Resort that forced the evacuation of tourists and caused in $1.4 million in damage.
The fire department says Monday's fire at Valley Isle Resort in Kahana started on the second floor of a building with a gym, sauna, kitchen and offices.
Fire department spokesman Lee Mainaga says the flames didn't reach the high-rise building that houses vacation rentals and timeshares. But it was evacuated.
Guests and residents were allowed back into their units after the blaze was under control. Power and elevator service were restored.
Police and fire officials are investigating.
