Waianae water main break closes schools and businesses
The Board of Water Supply says most of its customers in Waianae affected by a 16-inch water main break Tuesday had its water service restored before noon.
About 50 customers are still without water. Affected customers may obtain water from a hose bib on a fire hydrant at 85-332 Farrington Highway or at various water wagons placed in the following locations:
- Waianae Boat Harbor at 85-371 Farrington Highway
- Honolulu Community Action Program Facility at 85-555 Farrington Highway
- Waianae Fire Station at 85-645 Farrington Highway
- Dead end of Kauiokalani Place
Repairs are continuing at the broken water main at 85-670 Farrington Highway.
Waianae Intermediate, Kamaile Academy and Kamehameha Schools' Pu'u Kahea Preschool were closed as a result of the water main break.
Kamehameha Schools says the preschool will be closed again on Wednesday due to the water main break.
The Waianae public library, Waianae Boat Harbor, Waianae Regional Park and Satellite City Hall were also affected by the break. The city is asking residents to go to the Kapolei Satellite City Hall at 1000 Uluohia Street.
Repair work has forced the closure of both mauka lanes on Farrington Highway between Ala Hema Street and Kaulawaha Road.
A contraflow lane is in place to allow for traffic in each direction. Special duty police officers and signboards are positioned near the break site to alert drivers of the lane closures. Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays.
