Two traffic collisions caused lane closures on Kuhio Highway at separate times on Tuesday, according to Kauai police.
The first incident occurred near mile marker 22 in Kilauea at around 2:30 p.m., when a northbound white Chevy sedan crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming flatbed truck towing a trailer and skid-steer loader.
The Chevy struck the driver side of the trailer, causing damage to the trailer and major front-end damage to the sedan.
The 39-year-old woman driving the sedan and the man, 43, driving the truck and trailer escaped injuries.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, requiring the southbound lane of Kuhio Highway to be closed for roughly 45 minutes.
The second collision occurred near mile marker 4, just north end of Hanalei town. Shortly before 9 p.m., a Volvo sedan heading north crossed the southbound lane of Kuhio Highway and struck the mountainside along the southbound shoulder, causing the vehicle to roll over and land back onto its wheels in the northbound lane.
The 22-year-old male driver sustained non-life threatening injuries to his head and leg. He was initially treated at the Hanalei fire station then transported to Wilcox Hospital via ambulance.
There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
The sedan sustained major damage and was towed from the scene.
The northbound lane of Kuhio Highway was closed for roughly an hour and a half while the roadway was cleared.
