Garbage truck crash on H-1 Freeway causes islandwide traffic
Honolulu police says a garbage truck crashed into the median on the H-1 Freeway heading eastbound near the Kaonohi Street overpass Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened at around 1:30 p.m. Three eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes were closed.
The driver of the truck was hospitalized in serious condition.
The garbage truck was removed shortly after 5 p.m. The Department of Transportation says road crews will need to perform repairs on three concrete median barriers. Repairs were expected to take another two to three hours.
All lanes were reopened just after 7:30 p.m.
The Zipper Lane is scheduled to be open Thursday morning.
