HONOLULU -

Court documents detailed the events in the investigation of the deadly stabbing in Kalihi Friday morning that led to the arrest of 21-year-old Vainuupo Tosoga.

At around 3 a.m., police were called to Halona Street and Houghtailing Street in response to a report that a group of shirtless men were chasing another shirtless man in the area.

Officers arrived at Halona Street and Makalapua Place where they found a man with stab wounds on the side of the road and was unresponsive.  He was pronounced dead at 3:40 a.m.

One witness said he heard a confrontation on Halona Street and looked out his window to see a man wearing red shorts hop over the fence and run across the H-1 Freeway.

At 3:10 a.m., officers located a shirtless man wearing red shorts who was sweating and breathing heavily with blood on his hands, leg and shoulder on Mookaula Street and Moowaa Street.  There was a cut on the man's left index finger.  The man was identified as Tosoga.

At 4:29 a.m., three witnesses identified Tosoga as one of the men who was chasing the victim.  One of the witnesses also identified him as the one at the scene where the dead man was found who jumped over the fence and ran across the freeway.

Tosoga told police he was chasing a naked man by the freeway because he threw bottles at him and his cousins.

Tosoga was arrested and charged for second-degree murder.  Bail was set at $150,000.

Tosoga made his first appearance in court on Monday.
