Kilani Derego sentenced to life in prison
A man convicted of second-degree murder has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Kilani DeRego, 19, was accused of beating Charlys Tang, a 41-year-old taxi driver, to death in May 2010 at a Waipahu parking lot.
Back in February, DeRego took the stand and said he was with his girlfriend at a friend's apartment at Schofield Barracks.
The defense presented DeRego's Facebook page as evidence he was not in a taxi with friend Michael Robles.
Robles, 19, was sentenced last October to 20 years in prison for Tang's death.
During Robles' trial, he claimed he only played a minor role in the beating and that DeRego delivered the fatal blow. DeRego has since denied the accusation.
KITV4 News will have more the sentence tonight at 5, 6 and 10.
