Coast Guard member released from hospital; thrown in brig
Matthews was missing for more than 90 days
Russell Matthews
A Coast Guard member who was missing for more than three months has been released from the hospital and is now at the Naval Brig at Pearl Harbor, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Police say Russell Matthews showed up on Sunday at his home and was incoherent. He was taken to the hospital for observation.
Matthews was ordered to the brig by his commander for pre-trial confinement.
There is a legal review process, which could take up to seven days. Once the review is complete, there will be a determination whether Matthews should be released or whether administrative or military justice actions will be taken.
The Coast Guard is investigating the events surrounding his disappearance. Matthews was absent without leave for more than 90 days.
