Car barrels into Manoa home
It was a close call for a Manoa woman Thursday morning after a car crashed into her bedroom sending debris and glass flying everywhere. The 85-year-old survived the crash without a scratch.
The sedan plowed into the house on Puhala Rise at around 9:30 a.m.
"I saw a blur come by and I heard a crash. I didn't know what it was and I came around and saw the destruction," said Nuela Mead.
The woman who lives in the room where the car struck usually wakes up and goes to one of these wheelchairs to enjoy her morning coffee. But, on this day, she did something different -- something that saved her from being in harm's way.
"That's my mother's room. She's 85. She just gotten up from bed and went to the bathroom," said Mead. "She normally sits by the air where the destruction is so thank God she's not hurt."
Mead says her mother is on oxygen and wouldn't have been able to move quickly enough.
An 80-year-old woman was driving the car.
"She's OK. She's a little disoriented but didn't have any serious injuries. She was just in shock," said Capt. Clement Hew of the Honolulu Fire Department.
The driver told witnesses she just lost control.
