As part of our Commitment 2012 coverage we're profiling the top candidates in the race for Honolulu mayor, and we begin with Ben Cayetano.
Former governor and Honolulu mayoral candidate Ben Cayetano was released from the hospital Tuesday, according to the Cayetano campaign.
He was hospitalized Sunday night and was diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer.
On Monday, doctors at the Queen's Medical Center performed an endoscopy and cauterized a blood vessel in Cayetano's stomach and found no further problems.
After monitoring the former governor's progress, doctors released him at 5 p.m. Tuesday and is expected to fully recover.
"We are extremely thankful to everyone who has sent us their well-wishes for a speedy recovery for Ben," said Vicky Cayetano, wife of the former governor. "We are pleased with the news of his release as he will feel much better resting in the comfort of his own home as he prepares for this Saturday's primary election."
