A 16-year-old girl involved in a jet ski collision near the Sand Island boat ramp has died, according to state officials.

The Honolulu medical examiner identified the girl as Kristen Fonseca from Vacaville, Calif.

Emergency responders say a 20-year-old man on a rental jet ski collided with the girl, who was also on a rental jet ski, at around 2 p.m. Sunday.

Fonseca was hospitalized in critical condition.  The man was listed in serious condition.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources is investigating.  A spokesman says it is not known if the two skiers were in the designated jet ski area off Keehi Lagoon's small boat harbor.
