Maui fire officials said crews recovered the body of a man in his 30s in Wailua after a fisherman was reported missing Wednesday afternoon.
Crews arrived on the scene at 3:18 p.m. on the Hana side of Wailua.
The fisherman told his friend that he was going fishing. Soon after he left to go fishing, the friend heard someone yelling for help. The friend made his way down to the shore where he saw the fisherman in the water. The fisherman sank and disappeared.
The body was found about 200 feet offshore in about 20-to-25-feet of water. The body was airlifted to shore at around 4 p.m.
