A traditional Hawaiian blessing was held Thursday at the University of Hawaii's newly renovated International Gateway House.

Built in 1962, the two-tower dormitory complex was shut down last September for a $12 million renovation project.

"It will support living-learning communities where students study, cooperate and collaborate," said UH Chancellor Tom Apple.  "It's an opportunity for students to be transformed to find their passion."

The dorms have study lounges on each floor.  Each room has upgraded bathrooms, flooring and furniture.

Sixty percent of UH Manoa campus residents now live in buildings that are new or have been significantly renovated within the past five years.
