A Hawaii Island man is recovering this morning after the small boat he was on exploded in Honokohau Harbor on Tuesday.

According to Big Island firefighters, crews responded around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the harbor's mauka boat ramp.
They found the man away from the 25' Zodiac boat with people holding a bloody dressing to his head.
The victim suffered a cut to his head and also had singed hairs on his arms and face.
He was taken to the Kona Hospital in good condition.
Apparently gas fumes below the deck ignited and exploded while the boat was being launched.
It is unknown what caused the fumes to ignite.
