Big Island crews searching for body of fisherman
Man fell into water, hit head on rocks
Hawaii County search and rescue crews will be in waters off Hawaiian Paradise Park on the east side of the Big Island Wednesday morning looking for the body of a fisherman, according to fire officials.
At around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, fire crews were called to Ala Heiau Road.
A family member said the man was fishing and fell into the water. He struck his head on rocks and was reported to be floating face down.
The man is believed to be dead.
Fire officials say search and rescue crews were hampered by a current in the northerly direction, approximately 5-to-6-foot swells, onshore winds of about 20-to-25 mph, light showers and poor visibility.
The Coast Guard is also assisting in the search.
