The girlfriend of an Australian man who was sentenced in the watercraft death of a California teen pleaded no contest through her attorney Tuesday to hindering prosecution.
Natasha Ryan, 18, captured the moment on video when 16-year-old Kristen Fonseca was hit by a watercraft driven by 20-year-old Tyson Dagley at Keehi Lagoon on Aug. 5.
Ryan deleted the video but a forensic computer examiner was able to retrieve the video.
Dagley pleaded no contest to third-degree negligent homicide charges and was sentenced to time served, probation and ordered to pay restitution.
Ryan and Dagley, both from Australia, were on vacation in Hawaii at the time of the accident.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 14.
Ryan's attorney, Walter Rodby, says the maximum sentence for Ryan would be up to a year in prison, but he expects her to be fined $1,000 and her not contest plea will be deferred. If she stays out of trouble in the U.S. for six months, the offense would be wiped from her record.
