Alaska Airlines keeps passengers waiting
Alaska Airlines operations are slowly returning to normal after computer problems delayed flights.
Passengers waited patiently to check into their Alaska Airlines flight at Honolulu International Airport. Cherrie Delacruz says she was supposed to depart at 2 p.m. to Oakland, but her flight was delayed twice.
"I'm going to have to call in sick now for work tomorrow because we probably don't get in until close to three, and who knows, what if it gets delayed again," said Delacruz.
Alaska Airlines says the flights were delayed because of two severed fiber optic cuts. This caused the computers used to check-in passengers to shut down, so employees were handwriting flight numbers.
Some passengers say this is the last time they are flying with the airline. Alaska Airlines and its sister carrier Horizon Air apologized for the delays and canceled flights affecting more than 6,000 passengers.
Horizon Air's CEO, Glenn Johnson said, "This is clearly a huge impact on them, and we take it very very seriously, and we will make it right."
The airline says the outage was fixed by 1 p.m., but passengers should continue to expect delays as operations adjust.
