The city's Department of the Medical Examiner has identified a man police say was stabbed to death Wednesday at Ala Moana Center as 23-year-old Brent Kanae of Honolulu.

Investigators say Kanae was stabbed multiple times and was found in the stairwell near the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant around 3 p.m.

A close family friend says Kanae worked at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Police were still looking for the suspect.

Emergency Medical Services officials say the man was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in extremely critical condition where he later died.

Police say the victim was an employee at the shopping center.  They say he was having lunch with friends before work when he was found in the stairway.

Kanae was a 2007 graduate of Kalani High School, according to a family friend.

An autopsy was scheduled Thursday to determine the cause of death.
