The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach said a 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Costa Rica Wednesday morning.
It happened at 4:42 a.m. Hawaii time.
A tsunami warning was cancelled for Costa Rica, Panama and Nicaragua just after 7 a.m. Hawaii time.
Although sea level readings indicate that a tsunami was not generated, there may be destructive waves along the coasts near the epicenter.
Hawaii is not under a tsunami watch or warning.
