6.9-magnitude earthquake near Russia not a tsunami threat

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says a 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck near Russia Thursday morning is not a tsunami threat to Hawaii.
The earthquake happened at around 4:06 a.m. HST, 53 miles southeast of Ozernovskiy, Russia and 1,370 miles northeast of Tokyo, Japan near the Kuril Islands.
The earthquake had a depth of 32.6 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A Pacific-wide tsunami was not expected and there was no threat to Hawaii
