4 boulders roll down Hawaii Kai hill near home

Kirk: Kamehameha Schools owns property boulders sit on

 UPDATED 8:32 PM HST Jan 28, 2013

Four boulders came down a Hawaii Kai hillside Monday morning and came within several feet of a home.

Min Kirk and her daughters were sleeping in their home on Hawaii Kai Drive when a loud noise woke them up at around 4:30 a.m.

Kirk says this has happened before in 2009.  This time, the bamboo trees blocked the boulders.

Kirk and her neighbors contacted property owner Kamehameha Schools, but they say nothing was ever done.  They say they also tried contacting the state, but never got a response.

"But, you know, for us, small homeowners, what can we do?" asked Kirk.  "To block all these rocks, this is a big hill."

The city's Emergency Management crews say the boulders came down due to weather-related conditions.
