LAHAINA, Hawaii -

Maui County fire officials say three vessels were apparently pulled from their moorings and were battered by the unusually high surf conditions Friday at Mala Wharf in Lahaina.

Fire crews got the call for capsized boats at 10:41 a.m.

On arrival, they found three grounded sailboats within a quarter-mile stretch of the coastline from Mala Wharf down to the Lahaina Crossroads Apartments.

The vessels are 30-to-40-feet-long.

No one was seen on the vessels or in the water prior to and during the incident.

Officials from the Department of Land and Natural Resources arrived on the scene.
