A jury has found 26-year-old Iosefa Pasene guilty of second-degree murder in a 2009 Chinatown shooting.
According to a police report, victim Joseph Peneueta was standing on the corner of North Pauahi and River streets when a blue car drove up. Witnesses said two men got out of the car and shot Peneueta several times in the back.
Pasene and a second man, Zorro Rye, were tried in court two years ago, but it ended in a hung jury and a mistrial was declared.
In a later trial, Rye was acquitted of the charges. His girlfriend swore he was with her the whole night. But Pasene's retrial ended in a guilty verdict.
A hearing will be held later this month on the state’s motion for extended sentencing for Pasene.
