2 hospitalized in head-on crash in Kihei

Victims suffered life-threatening injuries

KIHEI, Hawaii -

Maui police say two people suffered life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision in Kihei Thursday.

The crash happened just before 4:30 p.m. on Piilani Highway north of Keonekai Road.

Investigators say a blue Honda Civic was traveling north on Piilani Highway when it crossed the center line and crashed into an oncoming Toyota Corolla.

The passenger in the Honda, a 50-year-old Kahului woman, was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the Toyota, a 48-year old Kahului man, was also hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The 64-year-old woman driving the Honda was not reported to be injured.

The case of the crash is under investigation.
